Outlar Introduction
Outlar.com is a non-profit site focused on Electronic and Dance Music events in Liverpool, UK. The site was
originally created in 2004 by Paul Burkey (aka Paul Outlar),
a computer game designer (and part time DJ)
from Liverpool with a love of the electronic music scene and community spirit that surrounds it.
In the first two years the site has expanded to over 15,000 pages of information on events
past and future in Liverpool as well as information on related artists and music productions.
The site currently serves half a million pages every month.
In 2005 an Outlar sister site (PlasticSoup.com) was opened
with an aim to provide reviews, interviews and general music and culture journalism. So far PlasticSoup has
worked with and/or interviewed likes of Jeff Mills, DJ Craze, Underground Resistance, DJ Premier and Kevin Saunderson.
Outlar/PlasticSoup Staff and Contributors
The site is still developed by Paul Burkey but would not
be possible without the regular input and collaboration with the following fine people!
- Jimmy Coultas - PlasticSoup Editor/Journalist
- David Harvie - Music Research
- Nik Torrens - Additional Photography
- Leo Belchetz - Resident Music Reviewer
- Sam Clack - Additional Journalism
Beginnings
I grew increasingly tired of having to dig through dozens of web sites, forums and
newspapers trying to figure out what was going on a particular night. Existing Liverpool Clubbing
sites offer little more than Forums, Photo's and Adverts. It's all too easy to overlook events
happening at smaller clubs/venues like The Magnet,
The Lemon Lounge
and Djangos Riff
in favor of the larger clubs like The Masque
and Nation.
Community
There is so much happening in Liverpool now; a site like this was needed to gather all the information
together in one place and most importantly to keep it up-to-date and accurate. I don't have any immediate
plans to setup a standard forum on Outlar but some forum type features will come into place soon.
This will include user logins, user profiles, user comments/reviews, individual discussion threads
for every event, venue, dj and so on. If you're looking for traditional forums,
I can highly recommend the Chibuku Forum,
Circus Forum and the
T-Funkshun Forum for a real taste of
Liverpool Clubbing Community.
Features
The site is designed to give a quick overview of upcoming events in Liverpool.
An important feature of the site is Mobile/PDA access. If you have a
mobile phone or PDA capable of displaying HTML pages (such as Smartphone/Symbian/N-Gage/K750/iPAQ and many others)
you can view upcoming events on the move by visiting http://outlar.com/pda
Add that to your Phone's Favorites/Bookmarks today!
Make Contact!
For this site to work I need accurate event information. So far the site is
setup using information taken from Flyers, Posters, Magazines, Club web sites
and even a few forums. For more accurate information I hope to hear from
clubs and event organizers. If you would like to inform me of an event please
contact me at paul@outlar.com.
Alternatively you can use the Add Event or
Send a Flyer Forms. Finally, I also
have a Help us Help you page describing
other ways you can help out!
