Name: Ashley Moran Music Style: Deep House, Techno Outlar-Listed Events: 16 Outlar Cross-references: Dave Clarke, Robert Hood, Brendan Long, Silicone Soul, Alex Celler, Chibuku, The Magnet, Chemikal, Creamfields, Coco De Mer Ashley Moran Intro: First off im not into all this blowing my own trumpet and biggin' myself up palarva. Im all for self promotion and highlighting your best qualities, but modesty is always the best way i feel, in my (humble) opinion anyway. So im not gonna claim to have smashed any dancefloors or rocked any crowds or any bullsh*t like that... Ego's are not something im a fan of, and if your gonna have one, you should have one when you've actually done something worth writing about. Anyway a bit about me, I DJ at and co-promote Chemikal in Liverpool, a small House & Techno night we started in October 2008 after we decided to make a twisted, off the cuff idea we came up with at Creamfields into a reality. In addition to the DJing and promotion stuff, i also started having a pop at designing the flyers for the night recently too. This is almost as enjoyable as the DJing part for me, although its hardly Van Gogh or Andy Warhol! Aswell as DJing for Chemikal i have also played at several other nights and venues in the city, amongst others, Coco De Mer @ The Magnet where i was lucky enough to be on the same bill as Alex Celler & Silicone Soul, when Chemikal hosted the fishtank. Another recent highlight for me, has been playing the main room at The Magnet's Boxing Day Mashup in 2009. Previous to this i had been (trying) to DJ in my bedroom for over 3 years. Although at the time, i only mixed in the dreaded and now extinct art of Scouse House. My first trip to Chibuku to see Dave Clarke in May 2007 would change all this however. A life changing moment if ever there was one, seeing Brendan Long, Robert Hood and then Dave Clarke smash the theatre to bits had converted me to House & Techno! If it wasnt for this, i might have been writing this for scousemp3's now.... :S Coming back to the present and my style and taste has changed, to where i now prefer to play a lot darker house & techno. Really deep moody stuff which i dont often get to play out. This is the style id like to play if i picked my sets but i appreciate thats just not how it works. These days, unlike a year or so ago, im much more willing to take a back seat and let someone else go on and hammer it and play the main/peak time sets. I would much rather go on earlier and warm up for the next DJ rather than have a lineup of 4/5 DJs who all want to play the big tunes and take all the plaudits. My style now usually incorporates deep house, house & more chilled/mellow techno. Anyway thats all i can think to write.... for anyone who makes it this far down the page, i thank you for taking the time to read this! Muchas Gracias Fin.
