Name: Brendan Long Music Style: Techno, Electro MySpace: myspace.com/brendanlong Outlar-Listed Events: 87 (Rank #60) Outlar Cross-references: Andrew Weatherall, Justin Robertson, Jeff Mills, Dave Clarke, Richie Hawtin, Kevin Saunderson, Pete Tong, Erol Alkan, Robert Hood, Surgeon, Annie Mac, Miss Kittin, The Hacker, Carl Craig, Green Velvet, Deep Dish, Ivan Smagghe, Kraftwerk, DJ Hell, Ellen Allien, Chemical Brothers, FC Kahuna, Ladytron, Chibuku, Bugged Out, Magik Kingdom, Mr McCarthy, Ashley Moran, Tom Paton, JoJo De Freq, Revo, Danny Woods, Paul McShane Brendan Long Intro: "Ever since my dad had me and my friends playing musical chairs to Kraftwerk's Man Machine at my fifth birthday party I've been totally obsessed with music and sound." DJing now for approximately eight years, Brendan has been firing through the annals of house, techno, electro and new wave with devastating aplomb. Boasting a wide and varied musical palette, he can call upon an influence roll of honor that takes in new wave/punk acts such as Devo and the B-52's, 80's industrial acts Front 242, Nitzer Ebb and DAF, alongside modern day techno pioneers Dave Clarke, Jeff Mills, Surgeon and Richie Hawtin. Recently Brendan has adopted a more minimal electronic house sound replete with a punky edge and a synthetic sheen; think Ellen Allien, Ivan Smagghe and John Carpenter arm wrestling in a locked space station whilst watching 80's Italian horror movies and you're only halfway there. Brendan made his Bugged Out DJing debut on Halloween 2003 at Liverpool's famous Nation venue, playing alongside FC Kahuna, Green Velvet and the Scissor Sisters. Since then he has made regular appearances for them at The End in London, Stealth in Nottingham, Sankey Soap in Manchester and the Carling Academy Liverpool, impressing everyone along the way with his deft skills on the decks. Recent highlights include headlining the MTV stage at this years EXIT Festival in Serbia; destroying the theatre at Liverpool's Chibuku before and after hero Dave Clarke; a 3hr set before Miss Kittin at The End for Bugged Out's 12th birthday; Barcelona's famous and respected Moog club; Berlin's Club 103 and Ladytron's weekly club, Evol. Brendan's career highlight so far was playing after his hero, DJ Hell, for Bugged Out at The End in May 2004. Clearly they have faith in his talent, offering him a residency at the age of 21 and since endowing him with a plethora of gigs at pivotal points in their promotions. Also anyone who was at Creamfields 2005 could have seen Brendan playing the final hour and a half in the Radio 1 Essential Mix tent live alongside Pete Tong, Deep Dish, Jeff Mills and Dave Clarke, leaving a scintillating impression on the festival-goers. A year later and he was back, rocking the Strongbow arena for two special sets which showcased his versatility to devastating effect. Brendan is also involved in the promotion and success of famous Liverpool techno club Voodoo, where he has been resident for 3 years. Since Voodoo's re-opening in October 2004 Brendan has rocked the dancefloor alongside techno's finest, Green Velvet, Carl Craig, Kevin Saunderson, Andrew Weatherall, Slam, Robert Hood and The Hacker among them. Brendan is quickly gathering a huge following across the UK and now, further afield as well. Having already played in Barcelona, Amsterdam, Madrid, Dublin, Glasgow, Paris, Berlin and Prague, international acclaim beckons. Recent remixes for Ladytron and Justin Robertson were released internationally to great applause, with plays from The Chemical Brothers, Erol Alkan and Annie Mac who have fallen head over heels for his dark menacing sound. M8 have also recently proclaimed him as one of a clutch of stars poised to break the big time in 2008, both for his growling productions and genre-hopping DJ sets. What's next then? Well, lots of DJing, and further time in the studio working on a number of projects including new material, remixes and some exciting collaborations. More sweat soaked basements running amok to his scattershot grooves, further reputable record bags bulging with his productions and a mob of grin heavy clubbers tiring their feet to his heavy sonics.
