Name: Loz Music Style: DnB, House, Breaks, Garage Outlar-Listed Events: 47 Outlar Cross-references: Jazzy Jeff, Yousef, Fabio, Scratch Perverts, Tim Deluxe, Dj Marky, Marcus Intalex, Grooverider, Groove Armada, Dillinja, Chibuku, Circus, Sophonic, Slut, Creamfields, Speculum Loz Intro: From garage head to dnb soldier via jackin' house excursions and back room shenanigans, Loz is rapidly establishing himself as a one-man purveyor of all things dance. Having acquired his first set of decks over five years ago, Loz quickly set about developing his DJ style, whilst simultaneously guiding himself through the minefield of production. Kicking off with the explosion of garage in the late 90's, Loz soon developed a passion for the rude boy synths and dirty b lines. Not one to have his ears muffed however, he soon discovered his love prog house and breaks, playing out at mates parties and locking himself away, honing his mixing abilities. Following on with the eclecticism, Loz soon found what was to be the focal point of his musical enthusiasm-DnB. From the dirtiest jump up of Andy C to the funk-fuelled output from Hospital Records, Loz began collecting vinyl like a junkie. Moving to Liverpool in 2002 to study Sound Technology at Paul McCartney's LIPA, Loz quickly earned his place on the Liverpool Drum and Bass scene. He's played alongside Fabio, Marcus Intalex, Digital, Andy C, Dj Marky and many others and is a regular fixture on some of Liverpools best underground club nights such as Slut, Sophonic, Chibuku and Blaze. Whilst predominantly a Drum n Bass stalwart, Loz has always held an affinity with any form of dance music that moves him. This is reflected in the diversity of his high class production work, which crosses the boundaries between the influences of jazz, funk, disco, progressive, house, and of course, DnB, with the one resolute, recurring theme being the devotion to combining traditional live instrumentation with cutting edge electronic production techniques, to create an organic, 'real' perspective to his music, whilst harnessing the benefits of modern technology. No other piece of production work illustrates this better than his eponymous remix of Groove Armada's 'Superstylin', the first piece of production that brought Loz into the wider consciousness of the dance music industry. The remix, using the original vocals and emphasis of the original, is underpinned by a loose yet relentless live bass guitar, and backed up by emotional lead guitars and string arrangements, which has quite literally destroyed every club where it has played! It has since had support from Jazzy Jeff, Tim Deluxe, Paul Woolford, Yousef to name but a few. With two of Loz's productions featuring on the recent Circus Vs Chibuku compilation, it was time to step it up a gear. Creamfields 2004 saw Loz's festival debut in the Chibuku tent, where he rocked the floor ready for Dj Marky to come on after and earning himself props from the man himself. Que the first Chibuku drum and bass residency and confirmation of his status as one of North West's most promising DJ's. The future looks just as bright for Loz, having recently embarked on the mission of setting up a studio and Dock recordings in Liverpool with a few chums, with its first release scheduled for early 2005. With gigs alongside the Scratch Perverts, Dillinja, Grooverider and any one who's anyone at the Southport Weekender lined up in the next couple of months, it's a busy time for the cockney kid. With one ear on the music that's shaping today's club scene, one hand on the mixing desk and another with a beer in it, this is set to be Loz's year, with requests from local DJ's and producers flooding in for the Midas touch. Hold tight!
