Name: Deval Music Style: DnB Website: http://www.12thround.co.uk Outlar-Listed Events: 19 Outlar Cross-references: Tonn Piper, Sappo, Kaleida, Mickey Finn, Ray Keith, Dj Impact, Nation, Prophecy, DJ-DS Deval Intro: Deval is young Bolton-based dj/remixer/producer Michael Kelly. His sound encompasses many different styles from urban breakbeats to soulful melodies, reggae rhythms to deep house. Deval's progress over the past 11 years has been rapid and diverse; from djing in small R'n'B clubs at the age of 15 to producing and djing for some of the biggest names in England. Having presented the morning radio show on Sunset 102fm with Greg Edwards (Jazz 100.4fm), on April 18th 1990, Deval set up Nu Styla Sound (NSS) with his brother, Wilson-K. After numerous private parties they established over 7 NSS nights in the North-West that lasted for over 3 years. Deval went on to co-produce the 'Impact Drum&Bass Show' on Buzz fm with Dj Impact and also hosted shows on Fresh fm, Frontline fm and Sting fm in the late 1990s. From 1999 to 2000 Deval promoted several successful Drum&Bass nights at Cyberia Bar (Manchester) and from this point on his reputation in Manchester was firmly set. He went on to DJ and MC at nights such as Soup, Squiggle Dee Mash, Full Fat, Rollin, Urban Nation, Off Da Hook, First Earth and many more. At this time, Deval became the resident at Spellbound (the North's premier Drum&Bass night), through the support of its founder Inkey, where he began to showcase Nu Skool Breaks alongside the world's biggest Drum&Bass artists. Having proven to be one of the top Nu Skool Breaks/Drum&Bass/Break-Beat artists in the North, Deval's abilities seem to be as diverse as his achievements. At present Deval is concentrating on productions and remixes for various labels including 12th Round Recordings, Life, Reformed, Viper, New Vibe, New Identity, DSci4, Formation and Freelance. He has recently set up Industry Artists, a new Drum and Bass artist agency that boasts such artists as Sappo, Mickey Finn, Ray Keith, Frenzic, Eksman, Tonn Piper and many more. Deval won Manchester DJ of the year 2002 at the Night and Day annual NYE Awards and has recently set up 12th Round Recordings (with Jim Dawson), with future releases from Bachelors of Science, Kaleida and Sol & Xample and himself.
