Since the moment he arrived as a wide eyed teenager there was only one thing on Stewart's mind... the rave. Whilst a degree in aerospace engineering masqueraded as motivation, it was Stewart's love of floor driven electronica which would ring truest. Immersing himself in the underground establishments churning out the finest in dance music, be them Bugged Out!, X, Voodoo or Cream, Stewart quickly became fixated with the music. He soon acquired decks and a burgeoning Vinyl collection, teaching himself to mix the funk, hip-hop, drum n bass and breaks he was buying with a rabid intensity, and set about ensuring he became more and more involved in the scene. It was this eagerness to involve him which would dominate his next steps, as he pursued an eager readiness to DJ anywhere and everywhere. Whipping up a constant barrage of mix cds, he took them to bars in and around the city in an attempt to blag sets. The volley of house parties obviously followed, but he managed to bring his sound to the Revolution Bar, Camel Club, Student Guild, and the student hall bars where he worked. Rapidly building up a profile, it would be another place of employment which would define his next level, as Stewart entered the murky world of promotion. Kellys Dispensary was always a favourite haunt of students, but it had never been seen imagined as a space for raving; something Stewart changed in dramatic fashion. His dogged persistence in trying to convince his manager to let him DJ there finally paid off when Comedown Kellys was born in 2002, and boy was it special. Riding the crest of the new wave of clubbing resurgence inspired by Chibuku, Comedown Kellys was a riotous excursion full of rave lunatics desperate to prolong the weekend. Always following on from a particularly scintillating Saturday night, it brought the good, the ugly and those who really should have packed it in hours ago down for carnage. Men in dresses dancing on tables, people sporting charity shop regalia, it had it all. Soon things were just too wild and the events stopped, but the indelible mark they left could never be shifted as Liverpool witnessed a legend. It was a chance meeting with one of the punters that would also lead to Stewart's next forages, as him and Jimmy Coultas then set up Superfly, designed to recreate the madness inside a club. It worked a treat; Stewart and Jimmy's mix of electro, techno and breaks causing similar scenes as they caused a multitude of hedonistic abandon on a Thursday evening. Soon the success would lead them to a Friday night slot at The Lemon Lounge, and the guests started rolling in. The Freestylers, Serge Santiago, Ali B, Sonny Wharton and a residency from Aussie breaks stalwart Smithmonger would earmark Superfly as one of the city's premier nighteries. Stewart's profile also dramatically increased, inking a deal as Liverpool University's dance music resident and clutching sets at Aztec, Chibuku and the Lake of Stars Festival in Malawi along the way. Now as Superfly has gained promoters and lost a few more, Stewart remains the only founding member, guiding the night as part of a four strong team now solely dedicated to breaks. Rogue Element, Vandal, Brothers Bud and Cut La Roc represent the new booking strategies as the Superfly Soundsystem charges into focus, playing regularly at Chibuku (where Stewart delivered an end of night riot on NYE 2007), a regular collaboration with Alter Ego in Manchester where Stewart is resident, and radio shows on Unity.fm. Now back in their spiritual home of The Lemon Lounge, Stew and the night he dually created continue to run tings in Liverpool.
