Sean McDermott - resident DJ and promoter of Bubblegum – the monthly underground Liverpool night that is `bursting with great House Music flavour'.

Sean took up DJ'ing after religiously attending Paul Oakenfold's legendary residency at Creams Courtyard. His other early influences included Sasha, Danny Howells and the marathon sets of Danny Tenaglia.

"After first hearing Danny's `Athens' CD on Global Underground", says Sean, "I was obsessed with the urgent desire to spin my own brand of House Music with plenty of percussion, a twist & plenty of accapellas & effects."

A later influence on Sean was Yousef's residency at Cream. Proper house music then became more accessible in Liverpool. This meant the chance to heard dj's like Onionz & Joeski, which led to a love for West coast & also Masters at Work afro-tribal style house. When Yousef established his monthly Circus event, Sean began to believe that the opportunity to promote his own event could be more than just a pipe dream.

When a Liverpool promoter first heard one of Sean's early mixes back in 2001, he immediately offered him a residency at `Together', mid week night held monthly @ Lemon Lounge. Despite a grim setback that year, when all of his records were stolen, he managed to scrape together enough material to continue and went on to do guest spots at `Audio Soul' at Hannah's Bar, and Chibuku's regular pre-party, `Bumpin' at Bar Fresa. His dj mixes have also featured on Proton Radio and Reading University Radio.

A recent runner-up in IDJ's monthly Raw Talent DJ competition, Sean's current style is predominantly influenced by dj's Mark Farina, Justin Long and Slater Hogan/John Larner and the swing/jazz style of jacking Chicago house, though he refuses to restrict himself to any particular style, and plays most varieties of high quality house music.

Bubblegum is currently enabling Sean to realize his dream of running a night that brings the hottest talent from around the globe to the Liverpool club scene. In the first twelve months, Sean has played alongside UK exclusive appearances of Jacob London and Heather Doble (Sound Navigators) and Liverpool exclusives of John Larner, Joey Youngman and Jonene (aka Jonny Kaboom), as well as a host of UK underground talents.

Despite the growing popularity of Bubblegum, Sean insists that the night will remain an underground house party with low costs, no arrogance and a place where fresh talent can continue to break through.
