Paul Kershaw Intro:
2004 proved to be an impressive year for Paul Kershaw
. After playing all of Cream
's UK dates at Nation
as well as rocking both Amnesia in Ibiza and Creamfields
UK last year, he has again been confirmed on the line up for their first trance-orientated event of the year.
He played the last set at the Come Together New Year celebration at the Tuxedo Princess in Newcastle where he went down a storm to an electric crowd.
In addition to this, Paul's acclaimed performance at Garlands
' new-year event guaranteed his return booking at their wild birthday celebration. As well as these huge gigs, 2004 saw Paul booked to play for Godskitchen
, Peach, Slinky and Sundissential amongst many others. He also had a guest mix featured on Graham Gold's longstanding Kiss FM show. A return to Cream
as well as debuts at Knowwhere, The Gallery, and involvement with the Crasher tour dates are already part of what is the busiest year for Paul to date.
Paul has played a vital role at both Godskitchen
's Global Gathering and Gatecrasher's NEC events in the past, undertaking both DJ sets and live broadcasts on Galaxy fm and this is continuing in 2005, with Paul hosting and broadcasting from a special pre-party at Godskitchen
's next huge event at the MEN arena in Manchester. His Ibiza gigs have previously included Cream
, Slinky, Tonic and Garlands
. Other international bookings have included Canada, Germany, Finland, Istanbul, Egypt, Spain and Poland despite the constraints of Paul's tough radio schedule which sees him working 6 days a week on both local and national shows. "Cross your fingers and your toes, because if Paul Kershaw continues to play sets like this then the greatest of all mysteries may not stay so incomprehensible."
- Wax Magazine
His countrywide, primetime Galaxy network trance show: Solid State, which broadcasts from 7-9pm every Saturday night, continues to go from strength to strength. Its prowess was quickly proved, as it became the fastest Galaxy show ever to gain sponsorship, in Paul's case from the international beer brand Sol. Paul has been able to call on the most high profile of guests for the show, including trance luminaries Paul Van Dyk
, Armin Van Buuren
and Ferry Corsten
as well as the world's #1 DJ; TiŽsto
This flagship show was created specifically for Paul and has given him the chance to show the Nation
what he's about- and the soaring ratings consolidate Galaxy's faith in the man. Solid State commands more listeners than Radio One's Judge Jules
in the Galaxy TSA (source: RAJAR wave 1, 2004) and is now the ONLY national radio show to exclusively feature the very best in trance music. The show has impressed listeners and radio bosses alike, so much so, that Paul has been put forward by Galaxy for a `specialist' Sony Award in 2005. "The brightest star in the Galaxy"
- Klub Knowledge Magazine, March 2004
On a local level with Galaxy 102.2, Paul's career has gone from strength to strength. Being a radio `virgin' five years ago, Paul has gone from presenting overnights, to the evening show, to now holding the prestigious drive-time slot, as well as being the first choice to stand in for the highly successful breakfast show. Paul's success has been mirrored by exceptional RAJAR results. The drive-time show's figures have risen continuously over the last 5 RAJAR surveys and indeed the station now has more listeners (15+ adults, a total of 364,000) than at any time in its history. The station even went to the lengths of putting Paul forward for the `Dj of the year' Sony award in 2004
On the production front, in the last year Paul has achieved chart success with `Music,' a collaboration with Nick Rafferty, which appeared on the Nukleuz DJ Nation
EP and achieved # 48 in the charts. The pair's previous record `Connected' was described as "Banging" by Paul Van Dyk
(as well as appearing on many of his playlists) and was supported by both Dave Pearce and Seb Fontaine
on Radio 1, being hailed as "inspiring" by the latter. Paul and Nick have recently completed two new tracks entitled `Dimensions' and `Signs' which they hope to release in the first few months of 2005 but which have already BOTH received plays on Paul Van Dyk
's radio show and have featured in his top 10 chart. Looking further back, Paul's records have also featured on many compilation albums including Gatecrasher and Euphoria. One such record; `Fiji' was voted Cream
's # 1 anthem of all time and achieved #52 in the UK charts.
With a career spanning over a decade, Paul has developed within what is undoubtedly a fickle scene, always keeping his finger on the pulse, entertaining new ideas whilst developing old ones. He never fails to perform, and interprets a crowd in a way that is rarely equaled, knowing exactly where and how to take the night through the roof.
