Name: Mike Brown Music Style: Trance Outlar-Listed Events: 5 Outlar Cross-references: Anthony Probyn, Paul Oakenfold, Paul Bleasdale, Rank 1, Cream, Garlands, Creamfields, The Masque Mike Brown Intro: Mike is one of Liverpool’s hottest up and coming trance DJ’s. The last 12 months have seen a massive increase in Mikes profile coupled with some major gigs at one of Liverpool’s oldest dance music institutions Garlands. Mike has been DJ’ing for six years now and has managed to progress to impressive heights since his early clubbing days at Cream. Inspired by then resident Paul Oakenfold, Mike bought his first set of decks in 1999 after watching Oakey destroy the main arena at that years Creamfields. Mikes first regular gigs came about in the summer of 2001. He began to play regular slots at Addiction in Northwich warming up in the main room, Mikes blend of tough edge house and melodic beats quickly made him a favourite with the local crowd and he continued to play on a regular basis. 2001 was also the year that Mike first started throwing his own parties under the “mono-funk” guise hosting numerous bars and clubs across Chester and North Wales. 2002 and Mike had a slight change of direction in his Music policy, although still predominantly a trance DJ mike began to broaden his horizons and started to use elements of house and techno in his sets. He began to see the benefits of this almost immediately with appearances at The Global Grooves Sessions (Chester) alongside Paul Bleasdale and K Klass. The next step for Mike came in February 2004 after a short break from DJ work. Mike secured his first international appearance in Andorra alongside Cream regular Anthony Probyn, playing 2 gigs at Cisco’s and 1 at the surf club the year started very brightly. Mike also made a appearance for a night in Liverpool by the name of Slide, based in The Masque venue these gigs shaped what was to be a very interesting 2005 for Mike. The most successful year yet has to be 2005. Not only did Slide move to Garlands and become one of the most exciting new trance nights in Liverpool the powers that be decided to take Mike with them. His crowd pleasing sets and strong following earned Mike the chance to warm up for legendary producers Rank 1. Slide also threw a summer party where Mike played back to back with Doug Drelincourt. During the month of December Mike played for Garlands themselves warming up for resident Matt Healey and established himself as a regular for 2006. So what does the next year have in store for Mike? Well first of all he intends to enter the studio and finish some tracks that he has started to work on with production partner Daryl Thomas. Also keep your eyes peeled for Mikes name on Garlands/Slide flyers and posters throughout the year.
