Name: Nick The Greek Music Style: House, Jazz, Disco, Latin, Eclectic Outlar-Listed Events: 152 (Rank #36) Outlar Cross-references: Leo Belchetz, John Digweed, Halo, Keith Thompson, Igloo, The Dragon Bar, Bommynite, Souljackin, Nation, DJ Fiend, Emkai, Will Jazz, Phil Ronayne Nick The Greek Intro: Nick `The Greek' Street was born to be a music man and his passion for music started back in the early 1980s. Nick's obsession with music evolved into djing and, as all the greats did, with a mobile disco. Whilst frequenting his local record shop in East Anglia, Nick got to meet a few peeps, who gave him the opportunity to dj across the South East at raves and clubs. His style had gone from Rave to early DnB and Jungle to UK/US house and he had the fortune to dj alongside Farley Jackmaster Funk and John Digweed. A move to Sheffield to study law at university was another step in his dj career, as one of his flat mates suggested that he enter the Gatecrasher competition. With this encouragement, he entered and to his amazement he won the final and warmed up for the likes of Matt Hardwick. While studying in Sheffield, Nick traveled to Greece with a bag of tunes for 3 months, island hopping, between his 2nd and 3rd years at university djing at various venues on the islands. When he got back to university, his friends came up with the name Nick The Greek and it has stuck since…. You'll be shocked to find that this Nick The Greek is of Scandinavian descent rather than Mediterranean... His move back to Liverpool saw Nick getting the chance to work as the US/UK House and Non 4/4 House buyer for X Fade Records. After several years, and the closure of X Fade, Nick started up his own company Bommynite Music and kept supplying Liverpool's vinyl junkies!!! During this time, Nick's friend Leo Belchetz suggested that he check out The Dragon Bar in Liverpool and within minutes of entering the Dragon, Nick knew this was a perfect place to create something special. Over a 2 year period with a great deal of support from friend's and family, The Dragon Bar truly became one of Liverpool's best kept secrets for underground house music and the likes…. Not only did it attract the best of local djs and events like Bommynite, Oneoffsound, Igloo, New York Sessions and Souljackin, the Dragon also hosted a range of national and international dj's such as DJ Romain (NYC), Halo ( San Fran), Patchworks (Paris), Kyri (r2 recs – London) and a singer or two thrown in the mix from South London born Steve Spacek (Sydney) to Keith Thompson (NYC). Since the closure of the Dragon in early 2008, Nick has traveled all over the country to dj at events such as Countach Moustache in Glasgow to Amplified in Fleetwood to Hoofer Doofer in North Wales. Just for a bit of a change, Nick was asked by one of Liverpool's leading indie bands The Maybes? to come and dj at their event in the Courtyard at Nation….which brought together different scenes which don't often mix. Throughout all this time, Nick has written regularly for the BBC and other online music providers, critiquing new releases in a range of musical genres and doing reviews of club nights in the Liverpool region and beyond. Nick is always on the lookout for the next party venue, the best way of combining different people and types of music; the common denominator is a killer vibe and happy faces. The future will bring new projects and new energy, can't say much more than that. Keep those ears to the floor. Until recently, he worked for X-Fade Records… now going it alone as Bommynite Music specialising in US house, UK house and down tempo. The music management and label side of Bommynite has just taken off, and he regularly interviews local, national and international DJs for BBC Liverpool Online.
