Name: Emma Music Style: House, Techno, Deep House MySpace: myspace.com/emma_mcguigan Outlar-Listed Events: 40 (Rank #79) Outlar Cross-references: Justin Robertson, Yousef, Jon Carter, Etienne De Crecy, Ivan Smagghe, Groove Armada, Ian Brown, Chibuku, Bugged Out, Nation, The Lemon Lounge, The Masque Emma Intro: Young Emma has come a long way in a short space of time. After a formative year spent in Nice during university where she fell head over heels for deep house vibes at underground beach parties on the French Riviera, it was only a matter of time before she got behind the decks herself. She returned in 2001 and, after the theft of her extensive and beloved CD collection, she started buying records, around the same time that Chibuku started gathering pace. As the host of the very first Chibuku afterparties, it was a natural progression when she was asked to become a resident at their spiritual home - The Lemon Lounge. Following the move to The Masque venue, Emma's profile grew, playing alongside the likes of Justin Robertson, Etienne De Crecy, Ivan Smagghe, Jon Carter, Yousef, Cassius and Pedro Winter to name but a few, reflecting alternately the deep, soulful and jacking nature of her musical tastes as she forged something of a female resistance at the club. Emma also played with her deck partner in crime Damo under the Dirty Sanchez! moniker too, enjoying many gigs at Chibuku, The Heavenly Social, London, playing as far afield as Moscow together. Emma has grown into an established and much respected Chibuku resident. This has been her biggest year so far, the pinnacle was warming up the main room at Nation for Groove Armada at the legendary Ian Brown @ Chibuku night in Easter 2006, a personal milestone having been a permanent fixture on the dancefloor whilst Bugged Out had its residency there. She has also played around the country, from Glasgow, to Newquay's Beachbombing Festival to New York where she had them hanging from the rafters at uber-cool venue APT, during two consecutive Christmas appearances. Now living in Manchester, Emma has also been championed by none other than Sankeys Soap, asked back three times to play the Soap Bar, finishing off the last two Allnighters by popular demand. Her style has matured, taking a more techno-oriented direction more recently with sets traversing the sublime across various house, disco and techno spectrums, but always crafted around a solid 4/4 heartbeat. With some fantastic Chibuku lineups in the pipeline, it will be onwards and upwards for this lady of the dance! It may all be just a big disco – but it's all about house music for Emma.
