Paul Outlar Intro: Born before Disco existed, Paul has seen UK club culture take many an unexpected turn; from Synthpop to Acid House, Hip-Hop to Dub, Ambient to Techno, IDM to Drum & Bass. Back in the 80’s Paul would visit clubs in Leeds and Manchester, most notably the Hacienda. In 1992 Cream opened in his home city of Liverpool in 1992. The early years of Cream, particularly seeing Todd Terry cemented his love of house music.
Fast forward to 2004 and Cream was no longer running regular nights in Liverpool. The city was back to hosting smaller, more underground/intimate club nights. It was his first visit to Chibuku (Liverpool), for their 4th Birthday with Mr Scruff & John Peel, that inspired him to get into club promoting one way or another. He setup the Outlar.com website, to promote the less commercial side of dance music in Liverpool.
In 2006, Paul finally decided to take up DJ'ing. Inspiration came initially from the new wave of deep house coming from German producers Henrik Schwarz and Âme. Since then (inspired by Berlin based Dixon) he has taken on house of all flavours. Other DJ's that inspired him include Kerri Chandler, Larry Heard, Theo Parrish, Stefan Goldmann, Derrick Carter, Moodymann, and François K. His favourite producers include Metro Area, Charles Webster, I:Cube, and Radio Slave.
Today, his music selection has become more eclectic, with Electronic/Cosmic/Deep Disco influences from the likes of Lindstrom, Prins Thomas, DJ Deep, Horse Meat Disco, Mark E, Arthur Russell, Maurice Fulton, Trus'me, and Todd Terje. His current favourite labels include Innervisions, Eskimo, Feedelity, Versatile, DFA, Wagon Repair, Permanent Vacation, Prime Numbers, and Classic Recordings.
Paul has played regularly throughout his home city at clubs such as Chibuku, Circus, Geisha, Aztec, Freeze, Ausgang, Pigeonhole Disco, and many others. He is currently taking some time out from regular Dj'ing, to focus on music production.
