Simon "Bassline" Smith started DJing at the age of 17. At this point in his life he was setting the stage for the rest of his musical career by pioneering the sound of the underground all over the UK at many all day parties which was the basis of the rave scene as we know it today. He was given the name "Bassline" after destroying speakers at these early parties through his heavy sub bass sounds.
2004 was a massive year for
Simon "Bassline" Smith. Alongside
Drumsound he produced the biggest track of the year for Grooveriders Prototype imprint. The mighty Odyssey went on to hit the number one spot in the UK dance chart. Last year also saw a debut artist album from the
Drumsound & Bassline Smith collaboration, and a string of releases on Renegade Hardware, Creative Source, Timeless, V recordings, Formation, CIA and of course their own Technique Recordings and Worldwide Audio Recordings.
The momentum showed no sign of halting in 2005. With remix projects already delivered for Ganja and their debut release for Breakbeat Kaos, their attention has turned to a series of EPs entitled The Valley of The Kings set to drop on Technique across the spring and summer months.
Alongside a pioneering production career which spans across the last decade, Simon has been representing his sound around the globe since the inception of hardcore and Drum & Bass. As a DJ, it all started in the early 1990s playing for legendary dance organizations such as: - Perception, Methology, Rain Dance, Dance 91 and World Dance. It was around this time that Simon started one of the first D&B labels Absolute2. He introduced and established producers such as
Doc Scott and Nookie before concentrating on his own productions. Palomino Jungle Music and Life were all seminal tracks in what was just becoming D&B.
Over the past few years Bassline Smith has secured his place in the D&B premiership. His Technique imprint goes from strength to strength and his heavyweight DJ sets have spread the Technique sound over every continent. In recent months his appearances have spanned America, Canada, Australia, France,Italy,Germany, Russia, Iceland, Spain, Holland, Sweden, Ireland, Czech Republic, Brazil, Poland, Switzerland, Uruguay, Norway, Italy as well representing for some of the biggest UK organisations such as Slammin Vinyl, Accelerated Culture, One
Nation, Detonate, Movement the list goes on.
