After a quiet life growing up playing the piano in the country with the birds, the influence of drum and bass and a move to England's capital inspired a transition that has seen Mark Merka become one the frontrunners in the new sound of breakbeat. In 2003 Future Funk Squad's Re:connect Records were the first to commit his bass-lines to plastic, which led to a signing at Paul Arnold's Fat! stable. Releasing some genre bending monsters to great acclaim has amounted to 'Beserka', the first ever artist album on the long running breakbeat institution, released in March '07.

Support has grown across the dance scene from Shut Up and Dance to Laurent Garnier, and appearances alongside dance music heavyweights like Bushwacka! and Rennie Pilgrem at England's biggest and best nightclubs including the End, Heaven, Ministry of Sound and Fabric have led to ever growing exposure, helped with slots on Radio 1 and Kiss among many others. Merka is currently keeping himself busy with a weekly show on BreaksFM, a mass of studio output and plans for full blown live productions, alongside energetic dj sets across the globe including both English and Australian album tours.
